EDUCATION DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM

DIGITAL LITERACY

The Latino Academy’s Digital Literacy programs help adults build confidence and foundational technology skills for both personal and professional growth. This hands-on course prepares participants for higher-skilled jobs by strengthening their knowledge of digital and technical tools. Courses range from beginner-level instruction in office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email use, and typing, to the introduction of applied artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, and how to use them in everyday personal and professional environments. The curriculum also includes resume writing and online job application support.

Enrollment Requirements

Students must be at least 18 years old. There are no language restrictions; some courses may be offered in Spanish or English. A basic pre-class assessment is offered to determine placement, but the only real requirement is a commitment to attend all sessions during the course.

Tuition and Fees

These programs are completely free for all participants. There are no registration or material costs. All course materials are provided, and students have access to the computer lab at Latino Academy Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, whenever it is not being used for scheduled programming.

Schedule and Format

Some programming is offered in workshop format to address the specific needs of students or industries. Courses in a class format often run for four weeks, meeting twice per week for 2 hours. All instruction is delivered in person to support hands-on learning. Class times are flexible and scheduled based on community interest and availability.

The program will expand to include more advanced levels and industry-specific applications, serving a range of beginners to intermediate-advanced users focused on workplace digital skills

AI for Language Learning

Workshops designed to offer students guidance on how to use AI to boost their ESL practice and skills, while learning about professional applications of new technologies. Since time is one of the main constraints for our students, AI offers the opportunity to practice mock conversations while in your car or use it as a grammar tutor to improve writing skills to complement classroom work. Workshops are offered in a variety of dates and times to give everyone the opportunity to attend.
The website shows a schedule that we don't have. We are currently fundraising for our Digital Pathways, and we are also offering classes related to AI for English Learners. I am planning to connect with a couple of potential donors next week. So I would like the page to reflect what we currently have and what we need. Also, this is a good space to share about the partnerships that we have had for laptops and use our pictures.
