Nydia Martinez
Executive Director
Dr. Nydia Martinez, Executive Director, is a dedicated advocate and leader in education and workforce development who joined the Latino Academy to create pathways for economic and social mobility within Wisconsin’s Latino community. With over a decade of experience in higher education, nonprofit advocacy, and workforce training, Dr. Martinez brings both expertise and a deep commitment to her role. Formerly Dean at Eastern Washington University, she led career readiness programs for migrant and first-generation students, equipping them with tools for sustainable careers. At the Latino Academy, Dr. Martinez builds impactful partnerships with businesses, donors, and community leaders, advancing culturally responsive education and workforce training that empowers individuals and strengthens families. Her approach is rooted in equity and collaboration, guided by a commitment to working together to foster transformative, lasting change for all communities.
Margarita Avila
Director of Workforce Development
Margarita Avila, Director of Workforce Development, joined the Latino Academy with a strong commitment to expanding pathways and opportunities for Latine individuals across Dane County. Since joining, she has developed strategies to engage communities, businesses, and organizations in supporting Latine talent, creating a pipeline for successful, sustainable careers. With over fifteen years in leadership roles across business and education, including her work as Director of Multicultural Initiatives at the American Heart Association, Margarita brings extensive experience in community partnership, program development, and strategic planning. She combines these skills with a dedication to diversity and inclusion, ensuring culturally inclusive opportunities that empower individuals to grow and succeed. Her leadership in initiatives both locally and globally—like the United Nations’ Youth Assembly and Prospanica—reflects her commitment to lasting, positive change. Margarita’s work is driven by her own experiences as an immigrant and her belief in the potential of each individual to thrive when given the resources, recognition, and support to succeed.
Julio García
Director of Education
Julio, Director of Education, joined the Latino Academy in 2019 to lead the Adult Education, English as a Second Language, and Computer Literacy programs. After teaching Spanish, literature, and culture at UW-Madison for 13 years, he moved into the non-for-profit world to support housing justice. After that, he returned to education with a community focus to increase educational opportunities for those who, many times, were never given the option or even thought of it as a possibility for them. His approach is centered in student accountability and independence, together with a strong sense of equity in access to opportunities and programming, so all communities have the chance to enjoy quality trainings and access to new industries.
Camille Skotnicki
Business Manager
Camille Skotnicki, Business Manager, joined the Latino Academy drawn by the meaningful work and the dedicated team she encountered during her interviews. With a background in Business Management, a degree in Accounting, and experience in HR, Camille ensures smooth operations across the organization, enabling staff and programs to thrive. Her role involves maintaining essential structures that support Latino Academy’s mission, and she finds it rewarding to see lives transformed daily. Camille is inspired by the Academy’s commitment to helping Latine and underserved communities gain the education and resources they need to improve their lives. Outside of her role, Camille dedicates her time to working with rescue horses, a passion that complements her commitment to creating safe and supportive environments for growth and resilience.
Antonella Díaz
ESL Coordinator
Antonella Diaz, ESL Coordinator, combines her expertise in education and political science with a dedication to honoring each student’s inherent value and fostering independence. In her role, she leads the ESL program and also advances the Academy's capabilities by building database management systems, integrating AI into workplace operations, and developing the Academy’s website. Antonella is passionate about creating resources that reduce dependency networks, supporting students in navigating their educational and career paths autonomously. In her free time, she enjoys singing and exploring new ways to contribute meaningfully to her community.
Clara Lopez Ortiz
Business Development Coordinator
Clara Lopez Ortiz, Business Development Coordinator, joined the Latino Academy inspired by its commitment to uplifting and supporting the Latino community. She brings a Master’s in International Business Management from Kingston University in London and a strong background in equity and inclusion from her previous role as an Equity Officer with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, where she advanced initiatives for minority communities. Named a “Woman to Watch” by HER Magazine, Clara is dedicated to fostering community connections and expanding resources that meet the needs of diverse communities. Originally from Iowa and now based in Madison, Clara is passionate about bridging gaps in access to education and opportunities. Outside of her role, she enjoys exploring new cultures, immersing herself in art, and attending community events that strengthen her ties to the world around her.
Isabel Rodriguez
Student Coordinator
Isabel Rodriguez, Education Coordinator, joined the Latino Academy in 2019 with a dedication to supporting adult learners in advancing their education. Over four years, Isabel coordinated GED/HSED classes and programs in childcare, computing, nutrition, financial education, and workers' rights, contributing to a well-rounded educational experience for her students. In her current role, Isabel assists visitors and students at the front desk and is working toward her Peer Support Specialist certification and training in Respite Care, further expanding her capacity to support the community.
Jorge Aguilar
RTTC Manager
Jorge Aguilar, RTTC Manager, joined the Latino Academy to lead the CDL Program at RTTC, where he supports candidates in obtaining their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and successfully entering the transportation industry. With a background in community service and a deep commitment to helping others, Jorge combines strong communication and organizational skills with a passion for problem-solving and collaboration. His approach emphasizes accountability and growth, equipping students to confidently pursue new opportunities. Inspired by the transformations he sees in students, Jorge is dedicated to expanding Latino Academy’s offerings and building partnerships that enhance access to quality training, fostering a stronger, more connected community.
Laura Meza
GED/HSED Coordinator
Laura Meza, GED/HSED Coordinator, joined the Latino Academy inspired by its mission to empower the Hispanic community through transformative educational opportunities. With over seven years of teaching experience in Mexico, Laura is deeply committed to supporting adult learners in achieving their academic goals and fostering independence. In her role, she focuses on creating a culturally relevant and inclusive environment that resonates with diverse backgrounds, helping students build confidence and a sense of belonging. Laura is dedicated to strengthening the GED/HSED program’s foundation, enhancing outreach, and standardizing processes to ensure each student has a high-quality experience. Outside of work, Laura finds joy in family time, exploring new places, oil painting, and discovering different cuisines, all of which enrich her perspective and passion for education.
Richard Posada
Employment Coordinator
Richard Posada, Employment Coordinator, joined the Latino Academy inspired by its mission and its alignment with his passion for helping others. With over five years of experience in recruitment, Richard brings valuable expertise in guiding individuals on their career paths and connecting them with meaningful employment opportunities. Since joining the Academy, he has been dedicated to serving the Dane County community by providing support in career planning and job placement. Richard finds motivation in the success stories and growth of those the Academy has empowered, and his goal is to help more community members achieve their career aspirations. Outside of work, Richard enjoys spending time outdoors and supporting his son in his educational and personal development.
