Together, they are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the resources and support needed to succeed.
Shiva Bidar-Sielaff, MA
VP and Chief Diversity Officer
UW-Health
Shiva Bidar-Sielaff serves as the Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at UW–Health, where she leads efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the health system. With a master's degree in International Policy Studies, Shiva has extensive experience in diversity leadership and has been instrumental in developing programs and initiatives that foster inclusive work environments. She is also actively engaged in the broader community and local government, serving on various boards and committees dedicated to social justice and equity. As Board President, Shiva Bidar-Sielaff brings her leadership in diversity and inclusion from UW–Health to the Latino Academy, where she guides strategic initiatives that strengthen the Academy’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. Shiva’s experience in developing policies that promote equity enables the Academy to enhance its educational programs and community impact, supporting Latino families in achieving economic stability and career success.
Dena Gullickson

Dena joined the Board of Directors at the Latino Academy of Workforce Development after being deeply involved with the agency since 2015, when she was a key partner in the creation of the Bilingual Construction Program. With over 30 years of HR experience and extensive non-profit board expertise, Dena is passionate about strengthening LAWD’s operational structure, staff, and programs. She finds inspiration in witnessing students thrive in family-sustaining careers and looks forward to supporting LAWD's ongoing growth in this new era. Outside her work, Dena is dedicated to helping individuals succeed within their roles and organizations.
Elizabeth Roddy

Elizabeth’s journey with the Latino Academy began in 2015, serving on the Steering Committee and, later, the Board of Directors. With strong connections across the construction industry and a deep understanding of workforce development, Elizabeth is dedicated to enhancing career pathways for LAWD students. She is especially inspired by LAWD's impact on individuals, families, and the community. Her goal is to create more apprenticeship opportunities for students. Outside of her professional roles, Elizabeth values family time as her primary passion.
Amparo Moreno
Adult Basic Education Faculty
Madison College
Amparo brings over 15 years of experience working with adult learners in Wisconsin to her role on the Latino Academy Board. Her expertise spans recruitment, student retention, curriculum development, and bilingual GED instruction, making her a valuable advocate for adult Spanish GED/HSED education. Amparo is inspired by students' achievements and hopes to help LAWD expand HSED options and secure resources for bilingual teaching roles. Beyond her role, she enjoys exploring dance styles like Casino Rueda and Flamenco.
Christopher Schmidt

Christopher Schmidt brings his extensive legal expertise to the Latino Academy Board, where he contributes insights on governance and organizational growth. As an attorney specializing in estate planning, taxation, and business transactions, Christopher’s legal acumen and his background as a certified public accountant enable him to support the Academy’s mission with strategic oversight and informed decision-making. His commitment to strengthening community-centered initiatives aligns with the Academy's goals of fostering students’ self-reliance and enhancing workforce opportunities.
Brenda Gonzalez

Brenda González serves as Vice President of the Board at Latino Academy, where her experience in community relations and her dedication to social equity are invaluable. In her role at UW–Madison, Brenda develops partnerships that connect the university with local organizations, a skill she brings to her work at the Academy. Her career in health equity, community engagement, and diversity strengthens the Academy’s connections to vital community resources, enhancing its capacity to support students and provide pathways to career advancement.

His dedication to education and civil rights advocacy aligns with the Academy's mission of providing high-quality workforce training and support for the Latino community. Darryl’s commitment to creating equitable opportunities and advancing technology access is instrumental in helping the Academy expand its impact and reach more students.
Salvador Carranza

Sal has supported the Latino Academy's mission since its early days as a program of the Vera Court Community Center. With a background in education policy and extensive board and government relations experience, Salvador brings valuable insight to the Latino Academy as it keeps growing. He is especially motivated by LAWD’s commitment to providing a welcoming, safe space for Spanish-speaking individuals seeking career and educational advancement. His goal is to help solidify LAWD’s structures and policies for long-term sustainability. Salvador is also an advocate for bilingual education and immigrant rights.
Kevin Foley
Associate Dean
Madison Area Technical College
Kevin’s passion for supporting Latino communities in pursuing high-demand careers led him to join the LAWD Board. With experience in bilingual management, career pathways, and educational partnerships, he is committed to strengthening connections between Madison College and Latino Academy. Kevin finds inspiration in seeing students succeed and plans to create more pathways for adult learners. Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, camping, more cycling, and spending quality time with his daughters.
