TRANSPORTATION IS ESSENTIAL

TRANSPORTATION IS ESSENTIAL

The campaign that connects many adults with secure, meaningful, and family-sustaining careers.
COVID-19 has shed light on the fact that Transportation is Essential. Even through lockdowns, factories and meat-packing plants are still running at full operation to provide us with food, toilet paper and other necessary supplies. Drivers are needed now more than ever to deliver supplies and services. Drivers are essential.

The Latino Academy of Workforce Development’s Transportation Academy has been one of our most successful programs during COVID. Students have shown strength, dedication, hard work, drive, courage, and resilience during these difficult times. Even through a pandemic they were committed to obtaining meaningful and family-sustaining jobs that contribute to South Central Wisconsin.

Míriam, José, Jasonn, and Rigoberto are four of the many Transportation Academy graduates who now work delivering essential supplies and food throughout Dane County.

In 2021, the Latino Academy’s goal is to support 50 students through its Transportation Academy. The Latino Academy invests approximately $3,000 per participant from program enrollment to job placement and job retention. We have raised, through the support of funders, almost half of what is required to meet this goal. We still need to raise $100,000 more. In order to raise these funds, we are launching the Transportation is Essential Campaign. The campaign that connects many adults with secure, meaningful, and family-sustaining careers.

The Latino Academy of Workforce Development makes our community strong by providing bilingual, culturally-responsive adult
education programming. Our driving purpose is workforce development. Over the last decade, we have grown to be a regional
leader in supporting unemployed/underemployed Latinos and non-Latinos through the process of career advancement.
To date, 88 graduates have obtained their Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B through the Latino Academy’s
Transportation Academy. During these difficult COVID times, these graduates have been in the front lines driving the roads of
Wisconsin delivering essential supplies and services. Our students are essential.
